It was said during the Roger Stone trial that his most apparent defense, besides being hapless, was that he was hoping that Donald Trump would pardon him, he was that dead to rights guilty. Now, he’s been judged guilty, and yes indeed, the pardon card is the one that’s being played. Stone’s daughter, Adria, was on Tucker Carlson’s show Friday night, after the verdict came down. Adria Stone and Carlson had distilled Roger Stone’s actions down to “supporting the wrong candidate” if you can believe that — forget about committing seven felonies.
Stone’s daughter said, “I can only ask, and I do, and this is, if he can, Donald Trump, if you can hear me. Please save our family. He does not deserve this. Nobody deserves this, and after February, when this is all said and done, I would like a lot of people to look at the money trail and where this all started, because this should have to happen to anybody. Nobody should have to lose their life to what we have just experienced, and there’s a lot more to come out that I can’t talk about right now.”

Stone’s fate now rests in part with Trump, who has the power to issue an election-season pardon or commutation to spare one of his longest-running political advisers any jail time. While the president has danced around the question for months, he tweeted about the verdict within minutes of it being read in open court.
“So they now convict Roger Stone of lying and want to jail him for many years to come. Well, what about Crooked Hillary, Comey, Strzok, Page, McCabe, Brennan, Clapper, Shifty Schiff, Ohr & Nellie, Steele & all of the others, including even Mueller himself? Didn’t they lie?” the president wrote, referencing a number of his longtime adversaries.
Before Stone’s verdict, a White House official said Trump had not been following the case because of the all-consuming impeachment inquiry in Congress.
“He’s preoccupied with his own fate,” the official said. The White House official also predicted that Trump would be unlikely to offer any relief for Stone until after the 2020 election to avoid any potential political damage from such a move.
Asked after the verdict whether Trump is considering a Stone pardon, White House deputy press secretary Steven Groves replied, “Not that I’m aware of.”
It is conceivable that Trump could pardon his entire covey of criminal associates who have been convicted, Manafort, Cohen, Flynn, Gates, now Stone, and possibly Giuliani if it comes to that. My instinct is that Trump won’t. In Trumpworld, other people are to be used for his purposes and all relationships are transactional in nature. If Trump can’t use these people anymore, then why bother? The only possible motivation I can see for him to pardon Stone or anyone else is assuming he loses in 2020 it would be an ultimate eff you to the libs to let his criminal associates loose, or if he wins in 2020, then in 2024 as a final act he might pardon his cronies, for exactly the same reason. The only thing certain about any of this, is whatever Trump does, it will be for the express purpose of serving the interests and/or furthering the legend of Donald Trump, no other reason. And it will be one more abuse of power, nothing new there, certainly.
