Fellow zoomers, a recent addition to our community here at PolitiZoom is Jan Burch, whom you may know as Jan4Insight over at Daily Kos. She was there for nine years. Jan recently incurred the wrath of the admins over there and bang bang Markos’ silver hammer came down upon her head. I know the feeling, believe me.
We’re not here to re-adjudicate whatever Jan may or may not have done on another site. We are here to pay a remaining $320 on Jan’s mortgage payment so she doesn’t end up facing foreclosure and eviction. These are not pleasant events and they could happen.
So, in the interest of helping out another Democrat and community member, can you chip in some small amount, like $3, to help Jan? Or, are you in a position to give more? If so, that would be wonderful. Better yet, BUY something of Jan’s, that way everybody makes out. More information on the art work she sells below.
The community here is fledgling and we emphatically are not going to be able to do too many fundraisers, until we get larger. We are simply too small at this point and don’t have the traffic. But this is a case of immediate need and I am hoping that as the community builds, from time to time we will be able to help out another good Democrat who is in crisis. It happens to the best of us. I got money from a fundraiser in 2017 at Daily Kos and it saved teeth from going abscess. It saved my life. I was flat out broke. I’m still not flush, but I’m better off than I was. Durrati had a fundraiser recently to offset income lost from having to take time off of work for two stent surgeries, and loss of other part time income. He has been able to rally since then. Murfster was ready to go live in the Chrysler, with his wife Teri, and two pooties, before a fundraiser rescued him.
Point being, a few dollars, thrown in the kitty, to help somebody in need can be a real life saver. Some people don’t get these advantages. I recall a woman named Maureen (also at Daily Kos, somebody here must know of whom I speak) and she died of an infection, alone, in a motel. Her two pooties were subsequently rescued and adopted by another community member, rather than being euthanized, thank God. So, a few dollars, given in a time of need, can make the difference between life and death in some cases. Jan is only asking for $320 to stay in her house.
Here is Jan’s information on how to assist her in this time of need. She’s an artist, so she will happily sell you something, and indeed, that is her preference. In a perfect world, she wants to earn the money.
I would love for as much help as possible to come through orders from my Zibbet shop — and please use PayPal at checkout, so the funds reach me immediately (the other method takes a week or more).
For those who are able to make a monthly pledge, the absolute best way to help me is by joining my Patreon page — Patreon is like “Act Blue” for artists, and is designed to get creative types like me to a sustainable income.
For direct donations, my PayPal is burchjan atgmail dotcom. Before you finalize the transaction, please check that it is set for “friends and family.” I’ve heard from several folks that the system defaults to “goods and services,” which takes the transaction fee from my receipts. So please check and change it back to friends & family before finalizing — Thanks!
For those who don’t use PayPal, buying a “coffee” through Ko-Fi will also help. It’s quick & easy, plus you can use a credit card and I’ll still get it instantly — but it does take a fee from my funds… just so you know 🙂
Friends, do what you can. We all have challenges and not too many of us are sitting on a lot of cash, and I understand that. Believe me, you don’t want to know my financial challenges with the teeth. I’ll be getting in debt for that and paying that back for years to come. Oral surgery is on the 19th. I may have to return to corporate America and get a part time job — but I’ll jump off that bridge when I come to it.
For the moment, if you can help just this one Democrat, in her time of need, that will be a wonderful thing.
Do what you can. Great oaks from mighty acorns grow. It’s a cliche because it’s true. I leave you with Margaret Mead’s famous quote.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.
That’s the long and the short of it. All change starts as progressive, grass roots effort. The fact that you’re on this site, reading this, testifies to the veracity of that proposition.
You are a lovely community and all the writers on this site are thrilled that you come here to read and interact in the threads. We’re only a little over a year old and we’ve grown by leaps and bounds around here and that is due to you.
Thank you for all that you do and thank you for helping Jan today.
God Bless (or Flying Spaghetti Monster Exalt, if that works better for you)
