Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, another of the impressive Democratic Freshman class who represents the South Florida district which houses the Homestead facility for migrant children, represents the best of American values, a value system that was and is and should continue to be a source of pride for Americans, a system that offers safety and shelter for refugees in exchange for the immeasurable gifts and talents they offer our country in return.

Debbie migrated here in 1985 from her native Ecuador with her mother and three sisters at 14 years of age, where she lived with her family in a one bedroom apartment while she complted High School, took a bachelor’s degree from Pitzer College and a Masters in International Political Economy from Claremonte Graduate.

Yesterday she visited the Children at Homestead.

How many Debbie Mucarsel-Powells now languish in tents in Florida and Texas? How many children who have so much potential are being treated like criminals because of the fear and insecurities of our criminal *Resident and his unworthy-of-the-title “American” followers?

Given the life she has made manifest, Debbie can only weep at the opportunities being lost to her adopted nation.

As do we all.

This is what the United States has become. We are guilty of crimes against humanity. We are kidnappers. They are being molested. They are being horrendously emotionally abused – an abuse most of them will never recover from. The only thing we aren’t doing is using these children for child labor. And I wouldn’t bet on that. Each of them is guilty of one thing, and one thing only. They were not born white. That is their crime. And our country is standing still for this. We have allowed families to be ripped apart, simply because they are brown families.… Read more »

How incredibly sad that the senate allows the turd brain to continue this travesty against humanity … where is that old USofA that we used to be proud of and had friends all over the world? To hell with the damn wall, let’s get these people processed and on their way to full citizen ship, along with employing their talents any way we can … Trump ABSOLUTELY has to fall, can the state’s bring charges against him? At least enough to topple his goal of 2020? Can a known criminal be put in office, wrong question, can’t we remove a… Read more »

While it’s wonderful to read about yet another freshman legislator kicking ass, I am so friggin’ angry that this is happening to the point where I want to stop reading the news. (Hey, how about the decision on Planned Parenthood that destroys the bodily control and personhood of Idiohio women who aren’t affluent — do you see why I call this god-forsaken state “Idiohio?”) We get a week devoted to the media fussing over the inartful words of a freshman legislator, which would had had literally NO impact if the media hadn’t amplified the GOP’s howling, yet we downplay the… Read more »
