GOP Lawmaker In Texas Calling To Impeach Trump Might Signal Winds Of Change

Jason Villalba is a fourth generation Texan of Mexican descent. He was primaried and defeated for re-election to the office of State Representative from District 114 in Dallas County in March. He has always opposed Donald Trump and for that, he was punished. Texas Tribune:

I was one of the only Republican elected officials in the country to plead with the American voters to abandon this charlatan prior to his election. For my transgressions, I was summarily unelected from the Texas Legislature. I have no regrets. I always do what I believe is right. That is not politically expedient, but it helps me sleep at night.

Vallalba simply tells the truth:

Since Donald J. Trump has been president, he alone has increased the national debt by over $1 trillion. Yes. One trillion dollars. The fastest any president in U.S. history has accrued that level of debt.

Our president has mocked and belittled our immigration laws, our intelligence agencies, our foreign policy strategy and even the American people. We have been called “stupid,” “weak,” “a joke” and “pathetic,” all by our own president.

And he makes a powerful argument for the “personal responsibility” which the GOP, Mike Pence in particular, says is one of their values.

But verily I say unto you today, if we do not stop this man now, today, over 500 days into his presidency, we will be equally culpable in what he has planned for our great nation. President Trump thinks you are a fool. He believes you will never abandon him. And he believes that that there is almost nothing that he can do that would cause you to abandon supporting him.

But what he doesn’t know is that you are not a fool. You, like me, are an American. And no man will own your heart and mind like this president thinks he owns you.

Today is the day we take back our America. Today is the day we say “NO” to anyone who revels in abusing those weaker than them for political points. […]

This is who we are. Not the sordid, ugly, Trumpists who require anger and vitriol.

Now, for the purists among you, when you read the entire article, he endows Ronald Reagan as the creator of basic American values and a saint. Yes, I want to laugh, too, but this man is young enough to be my son and doesn’t see Reagan in the context that I do. And he takes a sideswipe at Stormy Daniels’ and I really like the lady. Nevertheless, Villalba is perhaps beating the drum for a larger message here, which bears watching:

There are few bigger warning signs for a member of Congress that their re-election may be in doubt than when a challenger outraises them. In Texas, it just happened to seven incumbents, all Republicans.

Since last week, when U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-El Paso, revealed that he had raised a stunning $10.4 million between April and June in his bid to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, a wave of Texas Democrats running for U.S. House seats similarly blasted out their own unusually strong fundraising numbers.

The numbers only became more striking when compared to their rivals: Some Democratic challengers raised two, three or even four times what their Republican incumbent rivals posted in their main campaign accounts.

This is happening. This is real. It’s no longer a fantasy to turn Texas blue, we’re doing it. Now as to the impeachment issue, Beto O’Rourke is on board for that.

“Standing on stage in another country with the leader of another country who wants to and has sought to undermine this country, and to side with him over the United States ― if I were asked to vote on this, I would vote to impeach the president,” Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) told The Dallas Morning News.

My point here isn’t to impeachment or not to impeach. My point is that the Democrats in Texas who are on the rise and this one Republican, and he’s not the only one opposing Trump, just the latest one on record, might be our weathermen for the winds of change that are set to blow and sweep this whole land through. Glory be, we might turn Texas blue at last.
