A few days ago I published a piece entitled, REVEALED: AT&T Created OAN. It’s Their Monster. The story bombed. That happens from time to time but it bothered me that this particular piece bombed because it’s an important one. If AT&T wasn’t funding OAN they wouldn’t be in business. The venerable American Telephone & Telegraph is funding right-wing lies and it seems to me that this is a very big deal.

The Lincoln Project decided to get on board and maybe they can get things stirred up. At least I hope so. Here is the snarky “Package Deal.”

Everything is connected. AT&T contributes to people and things that I personally don’t believe in, which are in fact the antithesis of what I believe in. Therefore, I have to stop contributing to AT&T.

Let’s see if #BoycottAT&T starts trending.

And please, do yourself a favor and read the underlying article. You need to know who you’re dealing with. Reuters did a deep dive on this subject and it’s a brilliant piece of investigative journalism. The link to the full Reuters piece is in the first paragraph of my piece, linked to hereinabove.

Brian Williams did a riff on this as well. He says you can bring in OAN is you “angle your tinfoil hat the right way.” This is finally taking off. I hope AT&T loses tons of people.

  1. I read this yesterday and I am dumbfounded. I rarely take part in boycotts but I think it is definitely time I switched over to Verizon. That is literally taking my hard-earned money to start this bullshit station. Glad to see Lincoln Project is on the case.

  2. Sadly, dropping at&t is not that easy. They provide the internet connectivity for my current vehicle (Tesla) as well as my previous (Chevy/OnStar). Most features on my car don’t work without internet connectivity and you don’t have a choice in cellular internet providers.

  3. Started the process of switching over to another carrier a few days ago. Going to have to jump thru some hoops and it may take a couple of weeks to get new phones (i have a g3 which will soon be obsolete but $ is the issue) It will be done and then I will send their corporate a letter telling them why. At least I’m not still under contract. I believe in the power of boycotts.

  4. AT&T, has gone through many twists and turns, back in the early days, during the great money fail in the 1920’s, Western Electric, the supply and install wing of the company produced many useful things to keep their employees busy on the clock, later, it was found that the sewing machines they made were some of the best in the world for consistent quality stitching …

Western Electric also was involved with sound systems used in movie theatres, as they had not figured out how to put the sound track directly on the film itself yet, so sound was synched from big record players in the projection booths … many old black and white movies have a text block that says Western Electric Sound …

The Long distance systems were a maze of technology that improved dramatically over the years, also, AT&T produced under-ocean cable routes using huge ships and reels of water and pressure resistant materials …

With 147, “HUBS”, offices of equipment across the US, they had the means to standardize and make equipment common to virtually every city, town, and boon dock terminal …

Then, along came Judge Green representing many voices against AT&T, all supported by a huge amount of money from startups and many different technologies, raising hell from the public about how AT&T was the criminal, fixing prices and limiting access …

After his ruling, the gates crashed to the standards used by every office of every telephone company in the States … it was a blizzard of new ideas, and equipment, most of which were NOT compatible without interface equipment and rising costs were a result …

The Bell companies were splintered up and they all jumped on the bandwagon to diversify and expand their technology and areas of coverage … a lot of poor management in all companies were looking for the brass ring and burned millions in false starts … the cost was always absorbed by the public and their local offices …

Then, the old cell phones. which were really a device that looked like a regular phone with a couple light bulbs on it, bolted to the top of the floor hump in vehicles, and was a radio phone for service companies, like taxi’s, delivery trucks and other radio-dispatched units, one step above the old mikes on a coiled cord and hanging on a well-used hook …

These providers and users were brought together to design and build the, “perfect”, phone system, based on, POP sites, linking the backbone mains, (AT&T) to cabled-in providers, that tapped the massive transmission links already in place … These were divided into overlapping, “CELL’s”, 15 miles across, the earliest buy-in companies got the best coverage areas/tower placements, hence the better coverage areas of different companies …

A giant, “sharing system”, was designed for billing and access fees, best known for being able to drive from one end of the country to the other, keeping your phone on line even though your call has to be switched from cell to cell and one POP site to another … truly an amazing function …

Now for the bad news, AT&T suffers from the same disease encountered by almost EVERY large company, a board of directors and highest management, that know NOTHING about all the people, nuts and bolts it takes to assemble a working network that can handle the flow of such a magnitude of data … their pie-in-the-sky view allows meetings where a couple of, “not so bright”, do wrongs can pump up and promote the the adoption of a new direction of investments/support as an influencer for customer loads …

This is a problem because AT&T is common to almost every long-haul communication out there and this black mark will affect EVERYONE … it should immediately be addressed by responsible management and clear out those that have bought/sold the Company’s regained new respect for a wrong way to go …

  5. Last I knew, Verizon also supports conservative causes. Credo mobile is a carrier that donates a portion of their profits to progressive causes. Just google them and you can find their website.

    • I second the motion recommending switching to Credo. I’ve been with them for years. Their original promise “We will never give to a Republican cause” got me started with them.

  6. Will be cancelling my AT&T month-to-month cell phone plan before it renews in early November, sending my 5G cell back to AT&T and getting a new cell phone and new cell#. Will not give a dime more of my $ to any telecommunications co. that supports the overthrow of the US Government in order to install a fascist dictatorship. Hope to sign up with a telecom co. that does not send any $ to any GOP person or PAC, if possible.

  7. AT&T is deservedly having one very crappy year. First, the WB thing causes such a fiasco they give it away to Discovery of all companies. Now THIS is driving down their stock faster than Trump charging towards an all you can eat buffet. How many more shocks can they stand, I wonder?

  8. Well the one thing I have noticed is that a good portion of the mainstream media talks down on progressives even democrats in general. The right doesn’t need any help. I have actually seen them at least not be critical of democrats. Republicans are out for blood. Many know that when the dust settles they are going to be up a creek without a paddle. Joe Biden has a speech impediment, well so do I. Big deal. I think they have finally figured out he is in charge of the White House. If these clowns don’t have an nice to say, shut up. And this ATT crap blows. I have Verison. I’m sure someone can find a human rights scandals on them also. Who knows. But OAN, isn’t that the same network that has that cupcake that lost it on the veteran for saying that trump was soft on terrorist to. He blew up about something else this week. Guy needs some meds to calm him down. Of course a few less idiots wouldn’t be so bad.

  9. The problem is ATT owns a LOT of the hardscape that allows cell/smart phones and the Internet to operate. We can stop using their cell service, but you can’t get away from their towers and generators, their server farms and fiber etc. Thankfully, I’m already Verizon.

  10. I’m dumbfounded I’m changing my provider right away this is what keeps this country from reaching its full Potential because of lies and White supremacy
